Garden Notes
Garden mums are dense, mounding chrysanthemums grown for their heavy late-season bloom. They provide strong autumn color when many summer perennials are beginning to fade. Plant in well-drained soil with good sun exposure. For perennial performance in a cold-winter garden, plants established in the ground earlier in the growing season generally have a better chance of developing a strong root system than mums planted very late in autumn. Leave stems standing over winter for added crown protection, then cut back dead growth in spring after new growth begins.
